From Pilsley to Pitlochry
A customer called us looking for a price on moving house from Pilsley which is near to Chatsworth Park in Derbyshire up to Pitlochry in Scotland. They also wanted us to pack their delicate items and kitchenware.
We called round to survey the house and the good news was that with us packing everything we would fit their belongings in to one removal van, and as this was a 328 mile move that was going to save the customer money, something we always like to do.
The customer was happy with the quote we provided and very happy that we were going to be doing all of the packing for them. We booked a rough date for the move and they called us a couple of weeks before to confirm the moving dates once contracts had been exchanged. Because we have a fleet of vans and staff, we can be flexible on bookings and we always understand that it is not always possible to commit to a moving date until the solicitors have finalised everything.
We arrived the day before the move to start packing all of the customer’s delicate items, carefully wrapping each item in tissue paper and placing inside double walled cardboard boxes, ensuring that each item was secure. We then labelled each box with the room it was destined for.
It was a damp day so we made sure the carpet protectors were put down before we started moving things outside. We like to create an impression, but not on your carpets.
Next job was to dismantle any furniture that was not going to fit through the doors, carefully keeping all bolts and screws wrapped and with the furniture.
Before we place items on to the van we wrap them in blankets to make sure nothing is damaged in transit and we secure all items to the cargo rails on the side of the removal van.
Once everything was loaded on to the van, we had a quick check around the house, garden and outbuildings with the customer to make sure nothing had been left behind and then we took the van back to our secure storage facility in Bakewell, Derbyshire ready for departure the following day.
The customer had informed us that they would be collecting the keys to their new house around 13:00 so we got an early start at 04:00 that morning and began the 328 mile journey to Pitlochry. The journey itself was pretty uneventful although we passed through some spectacular scenery on the way, Derbyshire and the Peak District are well known for the dramatic scenery and Pitlochry and the roads leading to it offer some amazing and dramatic views, but we were not on holiday so straight to the new house to get ready to unload the removal van.
We arrived around 12:30 so had a little time to empty the remains of the flask of coffee while we waited for the keys to arrive. It can be a nervous time hoping that there aren’t going to be any last minute hold ups, plenty of times we have arrived at a property to find the previous occupants still trying to load their vans. These are usually the people who decide to hire a van and do it themselves and underestimate how many possessions they have or they hire a smaller van if they are moving locally thinking they can make several trips but then realising that they cannot unload the first van until they get the keys to their new house and typically in a chain all keys are released at the same time.
Fortunately the keys arrived on time and the previous occupants were nowhere to be seen so we began the task of unloading the vehicle having first put down carpet protectors in the new house. The owner had labelled all of the rooms and we placed the matching boxes in the correct rooms. Carried in the furniture and reassembled the pieces we had previously dismantled in Derbyshire.
2 hours later we were saying our good byes and wishing our customer the very best in their new home and we began the 328 mile trip back to our own homes.
